Details about the BB Select
I chatted with Brooklyn Bedding to figure out a bit more about this mattress, since the details here are pretty scant. The 8â queen mattress (the one we ordered) contains 840 Ascension X coils, which are 6â high and 16 gauge. The coils on the sides are wound more tightly for increased support (there is no edge support at the head or foot, just the left & right). The 6â coil isnât super common in BBâs products. The 10â, 12â, and 14â mattresses use 8â Ascension X coils (also 840 in the queen size), which are also 16 gauge in the center of the mattress, and 14.75 gauge on the sides for edge support. These are used in several other Brooklyn Bedding mattress lines, including the Essential sold on their site.Per the rep I spoke with, the coils themselves shouldnât feel firm, nor are they soft; give from the mattress should come from the foam(s) on top of the coils.Itâs widely suggested that Brooklyn Bedding mattresses run softer in practice than on paper, so this âfirmâ may feel more like a âmediumâ while another medium may feel soft.__We chose this mattress because 1) Brooklyn Bedding is a reputable brand, 2) the price was right, and 3) it has a 100-night trial period. It replaced a Saatva Classic Soft that was more than 5x the price (thankfully still within the return window) â Iâm still amazed it was only $330. BB is a good brand, they even wind their own high-quality coils at their Arizona factory. It is considered more fitting for back & stomach sleepers due to its firmness, but we got specifically it to use as a base/support layer under our 3â soft Talalay (19 ILD) & 2â medium Dunlop (28 ILD) latex layers. For reference, My partner & I are lightweight side-sleepers (5â7 115lbs & 5â9 140lbs).After sleeping on it for about a month now, I can confirm itâs a great bed. It does feel less firm than I imagine âfirmâ to be, but definitely isnât soft enough for bony people like us to sleep on our sides without a topper. With the latex on top of it, itâs quite comfortable! It offers support under the latex we were hoping for, i.e. the coils feel steady & firm under the plush layers we added. It is bouncy (as a mattress with coils should be) but doesnât transfer motion like a trampoline â we can actually roll over without waking each other up now!It also works REALLY well with our adjustable base (Lucid L300). Unlike the Saatva, it actually conforms to the shape of the base instead of creating gaps and sticking out at the foot.It smelled only slightly factory-like out of the box â it wasnât super noticeable and dissipated pretty quickly. Gel memory foam isnât exactly known for its durability, but since weâre just using it for the coils, it *should* last us as long as they do.The only minor issue is that it seems to be slightly shorter (head to foot) than a standard queen, by about 2â. The toppers stick off the end kind of awkwardly and I never know whether to line it up with the bottom of our base or the top. For us, that isnât a deal-breaker, but it could be for some.Final note on firmness: ~90% of mattress softness comes from the foam on top, not the coils, and this bed only has 0.75â of quilted foam & 0.75â of gel memory foam on top. Too-soft mattresses cannot be made less soft, but a too-firm mattress allows you to play around with additional foam layers to find what works best (e.g. adding an inch or two of high-density foam on top of the mattress/under the latex should be *chefâs kiss*).

120 day trial is legit but for me it’s Too soft, runs warm
I find that this mattress is a bit too soft for me, I sink about two inches. I’m 5’2 and weigh about 170 lbs. also It builds up heat, it feels cold when I first get into bed. This may be due to my weight or something else. I find that I wake up about four times a night to roll over to a cooler part of the bed.Update:The 120 day trial is legit!I didn’t need to use the extended warranty, I contacted the seller through A-Z and he was GREAT! NO HAGGLING! He had me donate the mattress to a non profit ( with receipt sent to him) or due to being so rural area and no non profit being near me he said I could give it to a neighbor or friend but that I need to send a receipt for it. Some reason the receipt wouldn’t load, it kept saying error but did fine when I sent it as a screenshot. Again the 120 day trial is legit! Also Amazon automatically cancelled for me the extended warranty and sent the refund back to me when Brooklyn bedding sent my refund, which was done by the next morning. I added two more stars because of the no haggling. Great company!

Worth the money
Itâs comfortable and the cooling gel works and for the money itâs amazing quality. The only reason itâs not 5 stars is there are some frayed threads in the stitching

Best mattress I’ve ever had
This is my second mattress from Brooklyn Bedding. The first was a memory foam & latex model that I slept on for 13 years. That one was fine in its time, but this one is better. The Amazon description lists it as a medium firm. Based on my own experience I would rate it as medium soft. Which is great for me. I’ve had chronic low back pain for decades. It was somewhat better with my first BB mattress, but after I’d been sleeping on this new one for a couple of months I realized I wasn’t having back issues anymore. I’m a side sleeper and the more recent mattress information says that we tend to need softer mattresses, so keep that in mind. Back or stomach sleepers may need a different model.I noticed that some reviewers found their mattresses were an inch or so short in length and width. I have a full-size bedroom set that was built in the 1930s. My mattress fits perfectly. Its depth is about 13 inches rather than 14, but that doesn’t make a critical difference. All in all it’s a great mattress, especially if you’re looking for one that’s somewhat soft.
