If you wait a little bit it gets better
I bought this bed as an alternative to a more expensive option. I had been using a Tuft & Needle queen mattress that my sister had bought a while back and stored for some time and the bed frame I was using broke so I started to consider moving up to get a California King since I had a little extra cash to do so. I got the frame from a popular manufacturer so I decided to invest in a good king mattress and was going to go with the Tuft & Needle because it was what I had used before.The price, though, for 1250.00 (not including tax) was such a steep incline in the spending of funds available for me that I was really weighing every review, wondering if this was the best option.And then, I found Cool Gel! I found this option and somehow managed to snag it for 400.00 (plus some change) and it came with 2 pillows! I had thought I was getting a steal. Until it arrived at my home. The packaging was so lackluster. I first thought that I had gotten a used product because the packaging was so bad (fraying and loose around the edges) And then, I remembered, that each mattress comes pre-rolled, prepackaged so it would be insanely difficult to roll it back up once it has expanded.Once myself and a friend were able to put together the bed frame and then start to unroll the mattress, my heart sank. As you can see from the photo of the mattress itself, I was so concerned because for like 3 hours straight the bed was lopsided and parts of the fabric that stretched were loose, as if it didn’t fill inwards. I had never really had a box mattress so wasn’t too used to the process of letting it expand. And the pillows it came with might as well have been broken.The material inside was split in half so the pillow would sink as if it was cut in half. I was so concerned I even called the manufacturer of Cool Gel and the operator assured me it would fill out, just don’t sit on it or touch it too much at all. The time frame is 72 hours to fill out completely. And, I decided to leave the bed, go to my sister’s house and stay over for a little bit and return. I was gone for roughly 7-8 hours and immediately noticed a huge difference. The bed was practically filled out completely. Slowly rising like dough but in reality, filling out quite quickly. I put the bedding on after and decided to lay on it and it was very dreamy. At first, it is a little firm but if you give it a few days it will soften (just like some other reviews have mentioned) and this bed is worth the wait! It is cool, it conforms to your body when you rest on it, and I feel like it becomes more and more comfortable each night.The pillows are also working really well! They finally filled out and fit their cases snugly. In combination with the soft bedding I got in conjunction with this new bed and bed frame I feel like I got lucky. I would say don’t pass up this bed. Wait for it to go down in price a little and then snag it. I honestly think it was a great investment, especially for the price I got it at!

PLEASE READ the instructions before cutting!!
If you are older – or weak (like my husband & myself) — PLEASE have someone who is stronger be with you when this arrives. It is a bear!!! My husband relies on my to do the research, etc. when doing the paper work. Jim is 77 and I am 70. It came early – which was great – in one aspect. However, I did not want to start the process of changing from our waterbed (which was a baffled no-float waterbed) to this new mattress. I wanted Jim to LOOK at the video and understand exactly what we needed to do. Of course – Jim very seldom takes my advice and this time, we paid dearly. I am sure, looking back, we will have a good laugh at the calamity — like frick and frack — but, it was no laughing matter at the time. Jim is not strong — he has health issues – but, is a very proud man and thinks that he is 20 again. I am 70 – and need a hip replacement – so, I am in constant pain. I KNOW my limitations — I cannot lift. I can push and I can hold – in a seated position. I was pretty sure that if we followed the instructions we could manage – when we were both in the mood to do so. I asked him to wait — he didn’t!! somehow, he managed to heave and ho into our bedroom — but, he left it in the monstrous box – which he got stuck and could not get it back out of the bedroom. Somehow, between the two of us, we managed to get it into the bedframe. However, although he drained the old waterbed, he left it in the frame – drained and flat. since he did not watch the video and he was impatient to get the bed into place, he cut the outside plastic – and the inside plastic – and we had un upside down fully expanded mattress sitting on top of our frame. The rest of the story is a nightmare – but, with some help from our neighbor the NEXT day, we got the waterbed mattress out of the bed (the baffles filled with air — don’t know how since the plug was on) and the new mattress in the right place. We are still trying to adjust – we have been sleeping on a waterbed since the 80s — and it is an adjustment. I think that in the long run, it will be better for us. I will put another review in a month to see if it helps our pain. We have slept through the night — but, I find it hot –even though I have breathable sheets on. We’ll see!! READ the instrustions on line – watch the video (the video is deceptive because it shows a male and female lifting the “compressed mattress” — with no trouble — onto the frame. Even the uncompressed mattress weighs over 100 pounds!!) Thanks for listening — Judy

It is SO hard to get out of this mattress, you will never want anything else. New technology.
My son convinced me to get one of these after I had been sitting on his. He said, ‘that’s old tech you have in your room… THIS is the new tech.’No boxspring, and so comfortable, you won’t want to get out of it. Helps you keep from hotboxing your body heat, as the material is pretty efficient at channeling away excessive body heat… Comes with two pillows that do the same although not as effectively as the mattress does.Make sure to get the hardness you want, since they have varying hardnesses. One of my sons has medium, I think mine is medium firm, like my oldest son’s.The price is a great value, especially when you consider there is no need for a boxspring. Overall a Wow! factor in your search for an improved quality of life. IF you haven’t had one before be sure to look at the height of it and get a frame that will have the height to net out to where you like the top of your bed to be if you used to have a boxspring.A final thing to know, this thing is heavy and vacuum packed. Don’t break the vacuum until you get it where you want, and if you are a smaller lighter person it is useful to have a helper (although you’ll get it eventually!) If you break the vacuum it is going to expand pretty rapidly (and in fact you will want to give it a few minutes when you DO want to finally place it to fully flatten out and expand). Enjoy!
