My first mattress was too soft, the second too hard, this one is just right.
I have a 16â memory foam mattress that mounts on a covered wooden frame that sits directly on the floor and not only is it a bit low, itâs also a little too soft. I put a firm mattress topper on top of it and it was a little better, but ânot just rightâ. Now, that I have added this amazing Japanese futon mattress on top of that, it is indeedâjust rightâ. It has added a couple inches in height and now I want to stay in bed too much – seriously. When I received this futon mattress it was vacuum packed, it looked like there was no way it could expand to a full king size, but, it did. The bag it comes in is oversized so thereâs little risk of cutting the mattress. As usual, my little helper had to investigate, she approves. The only place I could put it was on the bed, so it had to do all of its expanding on the bed and I had to sleep on it. The first night it was too hard, I thought I had made a mistake by ordering it, but by the third night⦠it was totally different, just perfect. The thickness increased as did the comfort. It is a firm surface, yet it is most comfortable. I am so happy I got this futon mattress, the Japanese has this down to an art. The only problem I have now is, as mentioned above, I donât want to get out of bed, but at the same time, I can just roll right out, Iâm not restricted by being in a valley of foam, like the memory foam.Is it worth the money ? Ask yourself how important is it to get a good comfortable nights sleep. To me, it is well worth the money and in fact, itâs a bargain. I like a firm comfortable mattress and this is it.

Not as expected, but still useful
As directed, I let this mattress sit out untouched and unused and it failed to expand to anything more than a comforter. In fact I have a duvet comforter that has more volume and fullness than this Japanese Floor Mattress.I don’t understand if this is what it’s supposed to end up as, and if so, I truly feel sorry for those who actually sleep on this. It is very uncomfortable and gave me incredible back pain to the point that I gave up trying to sleep on it through the night.I won’t be using this as a spare sleeping spot as intended. I think I might use this in tandem with my sleeping bag for camping trips.

Good Quality, Made in Japan, MORIRIN Futon Floor Mattress
Either the listing information is incorrect or the attached label of the mattress is false, because the listing says “Cotton-Filled” but the label clearly stated that this Japanese Futon has a polyester cover and polyester fiber filled inside. Besides the label, this is a Japanese made, good quality product. It’s soft and smooth to the touch, it’s a firm, thick Futon but still supportive and comfortable to sleep on. This can act as a foldable portable bed for your guests. I use it as a mattress topper because my old mattress is getting soft and slumps down the middle and it’s giving me a backache some mornings sleeping on it. After putting it on my mattress as a topper, my bed becomes supportive and comfortable again. After a couple days airing it out, the little faint scent has gone and the Futon becomes fuller and thicker. The quality of this Futon is excellent all around like most quality Japanese made products. I really like its overall quality and the quality sleep that I enjoy after using it as a mattress topper. Highly recommend.

Nice and firm
This Japanese Futon is a really well made, substantial mattress, nice and firm. It seems to be really good for my back since I no longer wake up from pain in my back and sides since using this. It is also quite handy to fold up and out of the way, despite mine being a King Size mattress.

Comfortable and not too soft
This floor futon mattress was comfortable and was neither too soft or too firm. It comes compressed in a bag but it returns to it’s original thickness very quickly after opening. The there is a firm cotton layer in the middle that is just the right firmness. On each side there is a soft polyester filling that is not too soft. I can definitely feel the firm cotton in the middle. I did not have any issues with heat. The mattress folds well for easy storage and is great as a guest bed that you can take out when you need it.

Good quality material and construction, but very little padding.
My condolences to the Japanese who apparently consider this comfortable. The quality of the fabric and sewing is great and the material is nice and softâ¦but as for padding on a hard floor, this offers very little. I would say slightly less than a 1/4â thick Yoga mat based on my knees testing between the two. Itâs not nothing, but very close to just putting a folded over sheet on the floor. The sides are a little more padded, but not sure what the benefit is there. We got the twin size and it is big enough for an average adult. We were hoping to use it as a type of exercise matâ¦but just not enough padding.

Great floor mattress
Iâve been sleeping on this Japanese shikibuton for a little while now, and I honestly love it. Itâs firmâdefinitely firmer than a typical mattressâbut in a good way. My back feels supported, and I wake up without that usual stiffness. I also love how easy it is to roll up and store during the dayâitâs perfect for small spaces or minimalist setups. It took a day or two to fully fluff up after opening, but once it did, it felt just right. Thereâs something really grounding and calming about sleeping closer to the floor. If youâre looking for a simple, high-quality sleep setup with that authentic Japanese feel, this futon is a great choice.

Awesome
Very nice futon mattress, the quality is very good and made to last. What I also like that itâs super easy to put away, just roll it up and put it away. I got the king size one and itâs very comfortable.
