Ok people, listen up. It’s story time.In early 2020, I needed a bed bigger than my Twin XL. But, I didn’t want to break the bank. After a lot of shopping around, I decided to try out a bed-in-a-box. For the first few months, it wasn’t too bad. But after that, it was all hell.I moved to Columbus Ohio in August of 2020, and brought this bed with me. It started firming up significantly, and I was miserable from lower back pain. I’m a 21 year old guy who’s in great shape, back pain shouldn’t be in my repertoire. Then, I got a job working for the Original Mattress Factory. I now understand EVERYTHING about beds.First of all, stay away from this. It’s crap. Why? Support and durability come from the core of the mattress. There are no exceptions to this. In a foam mattress, this comes from a high quality polyurethane foam that backs the comfort layers on top, usually memory foam. Foam quality is determined by structural uniformity, density, and chemical consistency. For a long lasting and consistent sleep, this material combination runs close to a thousand dollars, before retail markup. Life expectancy is 12 years. THIS IS NOT THAT MATERIAL.There are few places that build with durability in mind anymore. Major mattress brands hide behind a shadow of what they once were. I’ve seen the inside of their products. I’ve built the insides of ours. I know the difference. It’s astronomical.Furthermore, this bed is advertised as double sided. That is true only in theory. A double sided bed has the same material on both sides of the support system. This does not. They say that it is designed to have two different feels. The reality is that you’re flipping it onto the support side and sleeping on that structure. This results in a loss of support on the bottom of the mattress because you are sleeping on the support core. What an evil trick.What you’re looking for is support and durability, at an excellent value. You won’t find that here. Or at Sleep Number, who is overcharging for an air mattress. Or at Purple, who is only 1 year old, so who knows if they can back their own warranty. And you certainly won’t find it at Mattress Firm, who cattle prods you around to buy the highest priced thing they have at a financing value of a dollar a day (for 5 years). I know this because I’ve done the shopping. Dozens of hours of shopping was part of my training. I shopped so you won’t have to. Look, I’m not trying to sell our own product, but I’ll be damned if you don’t look at it and immediately see the light. It’s really that obvious. And if you’re not near us, at least find somewhere local with a great reputation for hand built mattresses. And, if they’re worth their salt, they’ll have real box springs too. While I’m on that topic… YOU NEED A BOX SPRING. If you have space for one, get a REAL box spring. One that flexes under applied weight. Do not, I repeat, do NOT get a foundation on accident. A real box spring will extend the life of a mattress by taking heavy shock out of a mattress’s support system and distribute it throughout itself, minimizing the impact your mattress has to deal with significantly. This greatly extends the life of a mattress. And now, let me make this clear:THERE IS NO BED SYSTEM (frame, box, and mattress) THAT “DOESN’T REQUIRE A BOX SPRING”.How do you think a mattress company makes money? They sell more by reducing the life span. Duh. Telling people not to use a box spring helps that along nicely. Evil? Yes. Smart? Also yes. The fact is, a mattress set should last for at least 10 years if built correctly. No sags more than 1.5 inches, no loose springs, no hard spots, etc. This is not a difficult achievement. We have several sets (mattress and box spring) priced under five hundred that accomplishes all of those things.Please, don’t fall victim to these products, they’re only a fad. You will know the worth of your purchase in about 3 years, which is scary because you don’t want to wait that long after dropping that much money to find out. Find a product that brags about its durability and value. A US based company that’s been around for 30 years and will stand by you as best as they can. Why? perfect levels of firm and soft
Absolutely could not believe the comfort, thickness, firmness, and pain relief this mattress brought us…even more than far more expensive high quality brands. This mattress blew us away. Unfortunately, it got mold on the outside cover and ruined the whole bottom of the mattress in just one year’s time. But other than that, we are still giving this a 5 star for everything else.
